A Network Engineer oversees the setup, configuration, and monitoring of LAN, WAN, VPN, and other network infrastructures. The role includes troubleshooting network issues, optimizing performance, managing routers/switches/firewalls, and ensuring high availability. This position requires strong analytical skills, quick problem-solving abilities, and an understanding of modern network technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, and maintain network systems and hardware.
- Monitor network performance and ensure optimal connectivity.
- Troubleshoot network-related problems and resolve outages promptly.
- Configure and manage routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
- Implement and maintain network security measures including VPNs and firewalls.
- Maintain documentation of network infrastructure, configurations, and procedures.
- Support network capacity planning and scalability improvements.
- Collaborate with IT teams to integrate new technologies and systems.
- Conduct regular network testing, backups, and performance analysis.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
- Strong understanding of networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF).
- Experience with network hardware such as Cisco, Juniper, MikroTik, or similar devices.
- Knowledge of firewalls, VPNs, and network security practices.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools (Nagios, SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).
- Ability to troubleshoot complex network problems effectively.
Preferred Skills
- Relevant certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+).
- Experience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Understanding of VoIP, SD-WAN, and load balancers.
- Scripting knowledge (Python, Bash) for automation.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
