Indian Institute Of Technology Roorkee
The Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IIT Roorkee) is a premier public technical and research university located in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India. Established in 1847 as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering, it became an IIT in 2001 and is recognized as one of India’s most historic and prestigious institutions for engineering and applied sciences. IIT Roorkee holds the distinction of being Asia’s oldest engineering college, originally founded during British rule to train civil engineers for public works. Over time, it evolved into a comprehensive institution with a global reputation for excellence in science, engineering, architecture, and management education. The transition to an Indian Institute of Technology marked its formal recognition as an Institution of National Importance by the Government of India.
